Round One:
The teams listen to a montage of popular song snippets and are required to punch their buzzer anytime they identify a song. This round’s songs are all themed, so the competitors may have to name two songs by the same songwriter or remember which song was at number two while another was at number one. To respond fast enough, the teams have to rely on their musical memory. Round two is won by the first two teams with five right answers.
Round Two:
In 45 seconds, the two teams who are still standing must listen to the song’s beginnings and correctly identify a variety of song titles and performers before time runs out. The teams receive visual cues to aid them, including an image of a well-known person mentioned in the song’s lyrics or a map indicating the singer’s hometown.
To make sure their time does not run out, each team must compete against the clock. One team goes to the Final; the other team is eliminated if they run out of time first.
Third Round:
In the third round, dubbed “The Final Chart Rundown,” the remaining teams must identify ten songs and performers before the funds run out. The team’s pot of money will start the round at £10,000. However, after five seconds of each track being played, the money will start to disappear at a pace of £100 per second.
The team will take home the remaining funds if they can accurately identify ten song titles and artists before the money runs out. If not, they will go home empty-handed (this rule does not apply in the Celebrity Specials, when the celebrities will get £500 for the charities of their choice if they are unsuccessful).
